Articling Students

When do you hire articling students? In March, during the Course aux stages.
Do you still have any articling positions open for this year (starting 2024)? No
Do you anticipate having articling positions open for next year (starting in 2025) for external candidates outside of your current student hires (if any)? No
If so, how many positions do you anticipate having for external candidates?
Do you allow students to work during the licensing process in your jurisdiction? No
Description of articling program To facilitate their integration and development, articling students are paired with an articling supervisor and monitored by a member of our professional development team.

The articling student is quickly involved in the files through directly assigned mandates. He or she assists the more senior professionals at every stage of the file. This may include legal research, due diligence, drafting reports, court proceedings, various contractual documents, memos and analysis. He or she may also be called upon to present motions to the court, and to draft research notes and argument plans.

The articling student also attends client meetings and internal team meetings.

The workload varies from week to week. On average, a student invests 35 to 50 hours and an intern 40 to 60 hours per week at BCF.
