Please describe your diversity programs and initiatives BLG’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee provides ongoing advice and guidance to the National Director of Diversity and Inclusion on the D&I priorities and agenda; and monitors and evaluates the implementation of the firm’s diversity and inclusion strategic plan. BLG also has a Women's Leadership Development Committee which fosters the development of women professionals as leaders in the firm and community through a variety of means, including discussion groups, networking events and training. Some of our recent initiatives include:

• Delivering training and education in a number of different formats, such as monthly Diversity and Inclusion Bulletins which cover substantive topics and seminars on topics such as Unconscious Bias, the Myth of Meritocracy, Building an LGBT Inclusive Workplace;
• Building a framework of support around maternity/parental leaves including a new parent coaching program;
• Examining and updating our policies to enhance inclusion and in particular the roll out of a Transgender Inclusivity and Accommodation Policy;
• Creating and supporting Employee Resource Groups;
• Examining our processes to ensure that there are no unconscious biases or barriers to the advancement of women and diverse individuals;
• Regularly reviewing our talent pipeline to ensure the progression of women and diverse individuals;
• Supporting the development of our women lawyers through the delivery of customized programs; and
• Collecting and updating our demographic data to monitor the impact and success of our initiatives and to track changes in the composition of our workforce.
BLG’s commitment to diversity also extends to our community involvement. BLG supports and participates in programs activities organized by various law faculties, law societies and associations committed to promoting diversity and inclusion. For example:

• Supporting the Black Business Law Clinic;
• Sponsoring U of T Faculty of Law’s Law School Access Program and Osgoode’s Access to Law and Learning;
• Supporting various student organizations and events such as Black Law Students Association, Muslim Law Students Association; OutLaws at Osgoode; U of C’s Diversity and Law Society and Calgary Women Studying Law; U of T’s Women and the Law annual reception; Osgoode’s Diversity Week; U of T’s Law in Action Within Schools Program; RECESS at all Ontario law faculties;
• Sponsoring "See Yourself Here," at the University of Toronto Faculty of Law;
• Supporting Out on Bay St and Out in the Capital;
• Supporting the Canadian Association of Black Lawyers; the Federation of Asian Canadian Lawyers, the South Asian Bar Association and the Black Female Lawyers Network;
• Participating in the Justicia projects of the Law Societies of the provinces in which we practise; and
• Participating in the Barreau du Quebec’s Projet Panorama.
BLG also partners with many organizations to promote and improve diversity and inclusion. For example, we are a member of Catalyst Canada and a signatory to the Catalyst Accord; a member of the 30% Club; a founding signatory of the Law Firm Diversity and Inclusion Network; a national corporate sponsor of Pride at Work Canada; a member of Canadian Business SenseAbility and an employer partner of the Canadian Centre for Diversity and Inclusion.
