Comments BLG offers formal mentoring and professional development programs that are second to none.

Associates may choose their own mentors and coaches, and are encouraged to change mentors from time to time to ensure continuing development and training. Mentors and mentees are encouraged to meet regularly, and mentors actively participate in the annual review process.

Leading BLG's national professional development programs is Sindy Peixoto, National Director of Talent Development.

BLG's Professional Excellence Program commences in the associates' first year and continues through to partnership and beyond with specific programs to supplement training at each stage of their career. Our approach to learning and to managing professional development is multi-faceted. The comprehensive program encompasses mentoring, knowledge management, evaluations, training in substantive law, skills training, and practice and client relationship management.

BLG 101, the firm's introductory program for new associates and lateral hire professionals, is designed to help them hit the ground running. In addition to offering components of knowledge, practice and relationship management, BLG 101 facilitates opportunities for more junior professionals to get to know peers and professionals at the firm. Courses include professional expectations and responsibilities, practice organization and management, business aspects of the practice of law, drafting, preparing for and conducting a trial, ethical advocacy, solicitors' problem situations, purchase and sale transactions and financial statements.

In BLG 301, all associates in their third year of practice participate in a comprehensive 2 1/2 day national program enhancing practice skills. Associates meet their peers from across the country and are divided into practice streams: litigation and transactions. Program contents and teaching methods feature interactive training based on fact scenarios, role playing and hands-on practice opportunities designed to enhance practice skills.

In BLG 501, senior associates from across the country convene at this 2 1/2 day intensive program, which supports transition to partnership. Sessions are developed and tailored to ensure BLG's senior associates are best equipped with diverse professional skills and perspective required to deliver discerning professional excellence and exceptional service as partners.

In BLG 701, new partners focus on business development and practice management.

In BLG 901, partners learn how to set goals and work with teams to achieve those goals. This includes learning how to plan and communicate more effectively and enhance collaboration with team members to achieve a common goal.
