At Borden Ladner Gervais LLP (BLG), our commitment to excellence applies to everything we do. We understand that the professional and service excellence we offer to our clients is dependent on our team - the students, support staff, paralegals, patent agents and experienced legal professionals. At BLG, it begins with exceptional people.
A dynamic, full-service national law firm, BLG is a top-listed firm in The Best Lawyers in Canada®. BLG has more than 800 lawyers, intellectual property agents and professionals working in Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal.
We offer an exceptional and outstanding experience for students and associates to launch and develop their careers. Training begins with the Mentoring Program and Professional Development Program, designed to provide students and associates with coaching, feedback, collaboration and challenge tailored to individual strengths and interests.
Our investment does not stop there. As part of our commitment to providing top-tier legal services, and to facilitate the path to partnership, we created the Professional Excellence Program - a unique, nationally co-ordinated initiative that encompasses substantive legal training, skills development, practice and client relationship management, as well as knowledge management - ensuring that our lawyers develop the skills necessary to serve our clients.
At BLG, we believe that professional development extends beyond the walls of the Firm. We actively encourage all members of the Firm to get involved in their communities through many of BLG’s philanthropic efforts, such as BLG Reads to Kids. We also have a thriving pro bono practice and are proud to foster an environment in which lawyers can help improve access to the justice system, make the communities where we live better places and make a profound difference for people and organizations that otherwise would be unable to access the legal system. BLG has received numerous awards for its pro bono work.
BLG has a National Director of Diversity & Inclusion who reports directly to the C-suite. This role underscores BLG's commitment to diversity and ensures that, at all times, diversity issues are understood and addressed within the firm. BLG’s National Diversity Committee provides ongoing advice and guidance to the National Director of Diversity and Inclusion on the D&I priorities and agenda; and monitors and evaluates the implementation of the firm’s diversity and inclusion strategic plan. BLG also has a Women's Leadership Development Committee which fosters the development of women professionals as leaders in the firm and community through a variety of means, including discussion groups, networking events and training. In 2014, we conducted our first diversity and inclusion census to better understand the demographic composition of our workforce. We continue to collect and update our demographic data to monitor the impact and success of our initiatives and to track changes. BLG has a number of Affinity Groups, initiated by our lawyers and staff, to provide a formal mechanism for members of diverse groups and their supporters to come together to share information and support.
BLG’s commitment to diversity also extends to our community involvement. BLG supports various community groups and initiatives with a focus on diversity.
