Description of the second year summer program Second year summer students at BLG Vancouver undertake the same type of work as articling students. Our aim is to provide insight into the practice of law, challenging work and an educational experience.

We encourage you to split your summer into two rotations, one in corporate and one in litigation. However, we are always flexible. You will be assigned formal mentors, both partners and associates, in each of your rotations.

BLG Vancouver’s week-long orientation includes training in office policies and procedures, practice management, the anatomy of a business transaction, and an overview of a civil action. Orientation week also includes many social activities designed to get you to know the lawyers and staff you will be working with. Summer students are also invited to enjoy the many social and sporting activities taking place during the summer, including organizing your own summer student retreat.

Our commitment to professional excellence includes frequent lunch seminars geared specifically to summer students. Seminars include introductions to a variety of our practice areas, ethics, legal research and writing, and researching legislation.

BLG Vancouver’s offer of a second year summer student position also includes a guaranteed offer to return for articles. Second year summer students who return to BLG Vancouver for articles receive payment of third year tuition fees to a maximum of $7,000.
